Who We Are
Pompallier Catholic School was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1958 in Kaitaia in the sub-tropical far north of the North Island of Kaitaia and is a decile 3 primary school. We are named for Bishop Jean-Baptiste Pompallier, the first Bishop of New Zealand and we are proud of our Catholic tradition. With six classrooms, well-maintained grounds, an administration block, and a library, we are well-resourced and cater for up to 174 students in years 1 to 8.
Students learn in a bright, welcoming environment where Gospel values and a caring, sharing family atmosphere are paramount.
Pompallier Catholic School has a proud history of academic excellence and is staffed by experienced and dedicated people. Our staff work in a collegial and collaborative team environment. The school is well-resourced with various digital devices for the students to work with.
The school is blessed to have the St Joseph’s Parish Church on site, which is nearby for our many liturgical celebrations. Our students, past and present, are actively involved in many ways in the Parish.
As a school, we are well supported by our families, the Parish and the community. Our students are motivated keen learners who are high achievers and are involved in a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities.
